Sañjaya said: Before the very eyes of all the assembled troops, he sent him to Yama’s abode—killing him openly in the midst of the great battle. Then, in that mighty clash, Bhimasena, as all the armies looked on, struck down Sulochana with a keen weapon and made him a guest of Yama’s world.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the public, duty-bound nature of battlefield action and its ultimate consequence—death. It implicitly points to the ethical weight of kṣatriya warfare: deeds are witnessed, reputation is forged, yet all culminates in mortality under Yama’s domain.

Sañjaya reports that, in the midst of battle, a warrior is slain in full view of all the troops—so decisively that he is said to be ‘sent to Yama’s abode,’ a conventional epic expression for being killed.
