The Tumult of Battle Described
त॑ बलौघमपर्यन्तं देवैरपि सुदुःसहम् । आपतत्तं सुदुष्पारं समुद्रमिव पर्वणि
taṁ balaugham aparyantaṁ devair api suduḥsaham | āpatattaṁ suduṣpāraṁ samudram iva parvaṇi ||
Sanjaya said: That boundless mass of forces—hard to withstand even for the gods—came surging on, difficult to cross, like the ocean when it swells at the time of the full moon.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights how war can gather into an apparently unstoppable surge; ethically, it points to the need for steadiness and discernment when confronted by overwhelming power, so that action is guided by dharma rather than panic.
Sanjaya reports to Dhritarashtra that an immense, seemingly limitless host is advancing—so formidable that even divine beings would find it hard to resist—likening its onrush to the ocean swelling at the full moon.
