भीष्मविक्रमदर्शनं तथा क्रौञ्चारुणव्यूहविधानम् | Bhīṣma’s Ascendancy and the Organization of the Krauñcāruṇa Formation
सम्बन्ध-- उपर्युक्त प्रकारसे सात्विक त्याग करनेवाले पुरुषका निषिद्ध और काम्यकर्मोको स्वरूपसे छोड़नेगें और कर्तव्यकमोंके करनेमें कैया भाव रहता है, इस जिज्ञासापर यात्विक त्यागी पुरुषकी अन्तिम स्थितिके लक्षण बतलाते हैं-- न द्वेष्ट्यकुशलं कर्म कुशले नानुषज्जते । त्यागी सच्त्वसमाविष्टो मेधावी छिन्नसंशय:,जो मनुष्य अकुशल कर्मसे तो द्वेष नहीं करता: और कुशल कर्ममें आसक्त नहीं होता,* वह शुद्ध सत्त्वगुणसे युक्त पुरुष संशयरहित, बुद्धिमान् और सच्चा त्यागी हैं
arjuna uvāca | na dveṣṭy akuśalaṁ karma kuśale nānuṣajjate | tyāgī sattva-samāviṣṭo medhāvī chinna-saṁśayaḥ ||
Arjuna said: The true renouncer neither hates an unwholesome act nor clings to a wholesome one. Immersed in clarity (sattva), discerning and free from doubt, such a person is the genuine practitioner of renunciation.
अजुन उवाच
Renunciation is defined as inner freedom: one does not react with hatred toward harmful actions (as a personal aversion) and does not become attached to good actions (as a source of ego or reward). True tyāga is sattva-based clarity, discernment, and doubtlessness—doing what is right without clinging to outcomes or identity.
In the Bhīṣma Parva dialogue setting, Arjuna is speaking and the discussion turns to the marks of a genuine renouncer. The verse characterizes the sattvic tyāgī: emotionally unentangled, ethically lucid, and steady in judgment, rather than driven by attraction and repulsion.
