Educational Q&A

The verse asserts unity among seemingly different spiritual attainments—Brahman-realization, immortality, eternal dharma, and absolute bliss—by declaring that they all rest upon the same supreme ground. It functions as a reconciliation: the highest goal is one, described through multiple aspects.

In the midst of the Bhīṣma Parva’s battlefield setting, Arjuna voices a doctrinal conclusion that resolves a doubt about differing ‘fruits’ of spiritual paths. The statement serves as a summative clarification: the ultimate support of liberation, righteousness, and bliss is a single highest reality.
