तस्मातउें प्रणम्य प्रणिधाय कायं प्रसादये त्वामहमीशमीड्यम्‌ । पितेव पुत्रस्य सखेव सख्यु: प्रिय: प्रियायाहसि देव सोढुम्‌,अतएव हे प्रभो! मैं शरीरको भलीभाँति चरणोंमें निवेदित कर, प्रणाम करके, स्तुति करने-योग्य आप ईश्वरको प्रसन्न होनेके लिये प्रार्थना करता हूँ।* हे देव! पिता जैसे पुत्रके, सखा जैसे सखाके और पति जैसे प्रियतमा पत्नीके अपराध सहन करते हैं--वैसे ही आप भी मेरे अपराधको सहन करनेयोग्य हैं;

tasmāt tvaṁ praṇamya praṇidhāya kāyaṁ prasādaye tvām aham īśam īḍyam | pitev putrasya sakhā iva sakhyuḥ priyaḥ priyāyāḥ asi deva soḍhum ||

Therefore I bow to You, laying my whole body down in surrender, and I seek to please You—the Lord worthy of praise. O God, just as a father endures a son’s fault, a friend a friend’s, and a beloved husband the offense of his dear wife, so too You are able to bear my offense.

Educational Q&A

The verse teaches humble surrender and the ethics of seeking forgiveness: when one recognizes the Lord’s greatness, the proper response is reverent submission and a heartfelt request for grace, trusting in the divine capacity to forgive as loving relationships forgive faults.

After witnessing the overwhelming divine revelation, Arjuna feels remorse for any past familiarity or disrespect. He prostrates and petitions the Lord (Krishna) to be pleased, asking Him to bear and forgive Arjuna’s offenses, comparing divine forbearance to that found in intimate human bonds.
