Arjuna said: By these very faults—committed by those who destroy their own lineage and which bring about the mixing of social orders—the eternal duties of family tradition and the inherited duties of one’s community are ruined and uprooted.

Arjuna argues that war driven by greed and anger becomes a moral fault that destroys lineage and triggers social disorder; as a result, long-standing communal and family duties—especially those sustaining ethical life and ancestral continuity—are uprooted.
On the battlefield, Arjuna is overwhelmed by the prospect of killing relatives. He presents ethical objections to fighting, warning that the slaughter of family elders will lead to varṇa-saṅkara (social confusion) and the collapse of kuladharma and jātidharma.
