Yuga-Lakṣaṇa and Varṣa-Pramāṇa Inquiry (युगलक्षण–वर्षप्रमाण–प्रश्न)
सहस्राणां शतान्येव यतो वर्षति वासव: । न तासां नामधेयानि परिमाणं तथैव च,वहाँ लाखों ऐसी नदियाँ हैं, जिनसे जल लेकर इन्द्र वर्षा करते हैं। उनके नाम और परिमाणकी संख्या बताना कठिन ही नहीं, असम्भव है। वे सभी श्रेष्ठ नदियाँ परम पुण्यमयी हैं। उस द्वीपमें लोकसम्मानित चार पवित्र जनपद हैं
sahasrāṇāṁ śatāny eva yato varṣati vāsavaḥ | na tāsāṁ nāmadheyāni parimāṇaṁ tathaiva ca ||
Sañjaya said: From those sources Vāsava (Indra) sends down rain in thousands upon thousands and hundreds upon hundreds. Their individual names—and likewise their full measure and number—cannot be set forth. (The passage underscores the vastness of the cosmic order that sustains life, beyond ordinary enumeration.)
