Educational Q&A

The verse highlights steadiness in one’s chosen duty (kṣatriya-dharma): Bhīṣma remains composed and resolute even when confronted by Kṛṣṇa. It also points to the ethical complexity of Kurukṣetra—where devotion to the divine and commitment to martial duty can stand in sharp tension.

Sañjaya narrates that Kṛṣṇa, described as lotus-eyed, rushes toward Bhīṣma in the midst of battle. Bhīṣma, undisturbed, responds like a seasoned warrior by drawing his great bow, preparing to meet the charge.
