Adhyāya 90: Babhruvāhana’s Reception and the Commencement of Yudhiṣṭhira’s Aśvamedha
पितृलोकगता: सर्वे तारिता: पितरस्त्वया
pitṛlokagatāḥ sarve tāritāḥ pitaras tvayā
All the forefathers who had gone to the world of the Pitṛs have been delivered by you.
श्षशुर उवाच
A person’s righteous action can generate merit that benefits not only oneself but also one’s ancestors; fulfilling duty toward the lineage (pitṛ-ṛṇa) is presented as a significant ethical achievement.
The speaker (identified as the father-in-law) praises the addressee, declaring that the addressee’s deed has ‘delivered’ all the forefathers who dwell in Pitṛloka, implying a powerful, lineage-wide spiritual benefit.
