Educational Q&A

The verse emphasizes that rightful ritual action should be guided by a legitimate guru-priest (here Bṛhaspati). A king, though mortal, can attain enduring fame and a ‘deathless’ status through dharmic sacrifice performed under proper spiritual authority.

Marutta explains the mission for which he was sent: to bring or present Bṛhaspati to the king. He conveys the instruction that Bṛhaspati, as the king’s guru, should conduct the sacrifice and thereby elevate the king from ordinary mortality toward ‘immortality’ in the sense of lasting merit and renown.
