अर्जुनदुःखहेतुप्रश्नः — Inquiry into the cause of Arjuna’s recurring hardship
Book 14, Chapter 89
Vyāsaḥ saśiṣyo bhagavān vardhayāmāsa taṃ nṛpam | indrasamaṃ tejasvinaṃ rājānaṃ yudhiṣṭhiram aśvamedhayajñaṃ samāpya saśiṣyaiḥ saha bhagavān vyāsaḥ abhinandya abhudayasūcakaṃ āśīrvādaṃ dadau |
Vaiśampāyana said: When King Yudhiṣṭhira—radiant like Indra—had brought his Aśvamedha sacrifice to completion, the venerable sage Vyāsa, accompanied by his disciples, honored the king and increased his joy and prestige by offering auspicious blessings. The moment underscores that righteous kingship is affirmed not merely by power, but by the dharma-aligned fulfillment of sacred duty and the benediction of the wise.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Dharma is validated through right completion of duty: a king’s glory is not only conquest or authority, but the disciplined fulfillment of sacred and social obligations, confirmed by the blessings of realized sages.
After Yudhiṣṭhira completes the Aśvamedha sacrifice, Vyāsa arrives with his disciples, congratulates the king, and bestows auspicious benedictions that signify prosperity and rightful success.
