“So it is,” they replied; and the moment became one that raised gooseflesh. Even after he had spoken thus, Bhīmasena and the other brothers, together with Draupadī, answered in one voice, “Yes—what the king says is right.” Hearing this account of such great renunciation, everyone’s hair stood on end, struck with awe at the ethical weight of the sacrifice.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
True ethical greatness is recognized not by force or victory but by renunciation and right judgment; when a ruler’s dharmic decision is affirmed unanimously by the virtuous, it becomes a moment of moral awe (lomaharṣaṇa).
Vaiśampāyana reports that Bhīma, the other Pāṇḍavas, and Draupadī respond together, affirming the king’s statement as correct; the narration emphasizes that the described act of great renunciation moves the listeners deeply, producing a collective sense of reverent astonishment.
