Educational Q&A

The verse teaches that jealousy and fixation on an enemy’s success burns the mind and manifests as physical decline; ethical self-mastery requires abandoning envy and resentment.

A person, distressed by the thought that his enemy Saṃvarta will become rich, grows pale and extremely emaciated—showing how fear and envy overpower him.
