Reunion at the Kuru Court and Authorization of the Aśvamedha

parīkṣid iti nāmāsya bhavatt ity abravīt tadā |

Vaiśampāyana said: At that time the Lord declared, “Let his name be Parīkṣit.” Since, when the Kuru lineage had been brought to the brink of extinction, this child of Abhimanyu has been born, he should bear the name Parīkṣit—one who preserves and restores the line. Thus spoke the Lord.

Educational Q&A

Even after catastrophic loss, dharma is sustained through responsible continuity—protecting rightful succession and nurturing the next generation so that social and moral order can be restored.

Vaiśampāyana reports that the Lord proclaims the newborn child of Abhimanyu should be named Parīkṣit, emphasizing that he is born when the Kuru line is nearly extinguished and will serve as its renewal.
