Vaiśampāyana said: “O Janamejaya, at that very time the mighty Vāsudeva (Kṛṣṇa) also arrived—the foremost among the Vṛṣṇis—together with his kinsmen, to the city called Vāraṇasāhvaya (Hastināpura).”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Dharma is sustained not only by victory in war but by timely guidance, protection, and the re-establishment of righteous order afterward; Kṛṣṇa’s arrival signals a return of stabilizing wisdom and guardianship in the fragile post-conflict period.
As Vaiśampāyana narrates to King Janamejaya, Kṛṣṇa—leader of the Vṛṣṇis—arrives at Hastināpura (also called Vāraṇasāhvaya) accompanied by his people, preparing the ground for the ensuing events of this chapter.
