Vāyu said: “Among the sources of heat, the Sun is declared the lord; among the luminaries, the Moon is spoken of as the sovereign. Agni is ever the ruler of living beings, and Bṛhaspati is the lord of the Brāhmaṇas.”

Educational Q&A

The verse teaches that the world is sustained by a rightful cosmic order in which each sphere has an appropriate presiding power (Sun for heat, Moon for luminaries, Agni for beings, Bṛhaspati for Brāhmaṇas). Ethically, it implies that dharma is maintained by recognizing proper authority, function, and guardianship rather than disorder or usurpation.

Vāyudeva is speaking and enumerates the presiding deities of key domains. The statement functions as an instructive catalogue, grounding the discussion in a vision of structured sovereignty—mirroring how human society too should be ordered by rightful roles and wise leadership.
