Vāyu said: “The unmanifest (Prakṛti) is declared to be the ‘field’ (kṣetra), for it is the source and the dissolution of the guṇas. Abiding merged within it, I ever perceive it; I understand it, and I also hear (its truth).”

The verse identifies the ‘unmanifest’ (avyakta/Prakṛti) as the kṣetra—the foundational field in which the guṇas arise and into which they dissolve—highlighting a Sāṅkhya-style distinction between the field of nature and the knowing principle that can discern it.
Vāyudeva is speaking and offering a doctrinal clarification: he explains what is meant by ‘kṣetra’ and asserts his continual, inwardly absorbed awareness of the unmanifest basis from which the guṇas emerge and subside.
