Brahmopadeśa: Adhipatitva-kathana, Dharma-lakṣaṇa, and Kṣetra–Kṣetrajña Viveka
Book 14, Chapter 43
manasaś ca guṇa-cintā prajñayā sa tu gṛhyate | hṛdi-sthaś cetano dhātur mano-jñāne vidhīyate ||
Vāyu said: “The mind engages in contemplating qualities, and that contemplation is apprehended through discernment (prajñā). The conscious principle (the inner Self) abiding in the heart is appointed to assist the mind’s act of knowing and reflection.”
वायुदेव उवाच
Mental contemplation (cintana) operates through the mind, but true apprehension is through prajñā—discerning insight. The verse also asserts an inner conscious principle seated in the heart that supports and enables the mind’s knowing, implying that cognition is not merely mechanical but grounded in consciousness.
Vāyudeva is speaking and explaining an inner-psychological doctrine: how the mind thinks about qualities and how understanding arises, with the heart-abiding conscious principle aiding mental cognition. The passage functions as instruction on the relation between mind, intellect, and the inner Self.
