Vāyu said: One who truly understands, as they are in reality, the guṇas whose names are subtle and unmanifest, and who also knows the pure courses of existence, becomes a knower of the principle by which the guṇas are distinguished and apportioned. Such a person is not overpowered by worldly sorrow; and after casting off the body, he is released from the bondage of all guṇas, abiding free from affliction.

Liberation comes through precise knowledge of prakṛti’s guṇas and their differentiation, along with insight into the pure destinies (gatīs). Such knowledge dissolves bondage to the guṇas, making one unaffected by worldly sorrow and free after death.
Vāyudeva is speaking as a teacher, presenting a Sāṅkhya-like instruction: by understanding the subtle guṇas and the principles governing their operation, a person transcends their binding power and attains freedom from suffering.
