Vyāsa said: “O king, know me to be the Gandharva named Dhṛtarāṣṭra, who has come to you wishing to speak. O lion among kings, listen to the message of Indra from me—the very words spoken by the great-souled Lord of the worlds.”
व्यास उवाच
The verse foregrounds dharmic governance through receptivity to higher counsel: a king is urged to listen carefully to a divinely authorized message, emphasizing humility, attentiveness, and responsibility in rulership.
A Gandharva named Dhṛtarāṣṭra identifies himself to the king (Marutta) and announces that he has come as a messenger to deliver Indra’s words, preparing the listener for an authoritative divine instruction.
