Vaiśampāyana said: “You know the Vedas and the whole of dharma in their entirety; therefore, O man of excellent vows, be firmly established in right conduct. And the granting of your audience—your very act of showing yourself—to the Pāṇḍavas will not be in vain.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
True knowledge of Veda and dharma should culminate in disciplined practice (vrata/observance). Ethical authority is validated not merely by learning but by steadfast right conduct and purposeful, compassionate engagement with others.
Vaiśampāyana narrates a moment of counsel: the addressed person—praised as learned in Veda and dharma—is urged to remain firmly established in righteous observances, and is assured that meeting the Pāṇḍavas (granting them audience) will have meaningful, non-fruitless consequences.
