Vaiśampāyana said: “Kṣatriyas, Vaiśyas, and Śūdras too assembled together. Having received the king’s message, the people of Kuru-jāṅgala—Brahmins, Kṣatriyas, Vaiśyas, and Śūdras—came there, their hearts filled with great joy. The scene underscores social cohesion and dutiful response to royal summons, suggesting a moment of collective order and goodwill after the devastations of war.”

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights dharmic social cohesion: people across varṇas respond together to a rightful royal summons, suggesting orderly civic life and mutual goodwill as a moral counterpoint to the disorder of conflict.

After receiving the king’s message, the inhabitants of the Kuru-jāṅgala region—explicitly including all four varṇas in the prose context—arrive at the designated place, joyful and united.
