Bhīma’s Harsh Speech Heard by Dhṛtarāṣṭra and Gāndhārī
“इन्होंने रत्नमय पर्वतोंसे सुशोभित और प्रचुर दक्षिणासे सम्पन्न अनेक बड़े-बड़े यज्ञ किये हैं, पृथ्वीका राज्य भोगा है और प्रजाका भलीभाँति पालन किया है ।।
putrasaṁsthaṁ ca vipulaṁ rājyaṁ viproṣite tvayi | trayodaśa-samā bhuktaṁ datta ca vividhaṁ vasu ||
Vaiśampāyana said: “He has performed many great sacrifices, adorned with mountains of jewels and abundant in dakṣiṇā; he has enjoyed sovereignty over the earth and protected the people well. While you were away, the vast kingdom remained secured in your line: for thirteen years it was duly enjoyed and administered, and wealth of many kinds was also bestowed in gifts.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Legitimate sovereignty is not mere enjoyment; it is stewardship—maintaining continuity through heirs, administering the realm properly, and practicing generosity through rightful gifts.
Vaiśampāyana summarizes the condition of the kingdom during the addressee’s absence: the rule remained secure in the family line, the realm was governed for thirteen years, and various forms of wealth were distributed as gifts.
