Chapter 33: Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Welfare-Inquiries and Vidura’s Yogic Absorption

Vaiśampāyana said: By performing sacrifice, beings gain the power to pass on to other worlds; those who do not sacrifice do not attain such a course. This fivefold aggregate of elements is enduring in its continuity, and the Self within the person is also enduring. Therefore, one who imagines that the Self is born and perishes because it is associated with many kinds of bodies—whose births and destructions are seen—has a futile understanding. Likewise, one who grieves excessively when separation occurs is, in my view, still childish.
