धृतराष्ट्रदर्शनाय पाण्डवानां प्रयाणम् | The Pāṇḍavas Prepare to Visit Dhṛtarāṣṭra
स प्रीतो वरदो मे5भूत् कृतकृत्यो महामुनि: । अवश्यं ते गृहीतव्यमिति मां सो5ब्रवीद् वच:
sa prīto varado me ’bhūt kṛtakṛtyo mahāmuniḥ | avaśyaṃ te gṛhītavyam iti māṃ so ’bravīd vacaḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana said: “The great sage, pleased with me and ready to grant a boon, felt his purpose fulfilled. Then he spoke to me these words: ‘You must certainly accept the boon I give you.’”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
A boon offered by a realized sage is not treated as a casual gift but as a dharmic obligation: one should accept it with humility and trust, recognizing the sage’s fulfilled intention and benevolent resolve.
Vaiśampāyana narrates that a great sage, pleased and having completed his purpose, insists that Vaiśampāyana must accept the boon being granted, emphasizing certainty and duty in receiving it.
