Vaiśampāyana said: Then Yudhiṣṭhira, the best of the Bharatas, ordered the army to set out—an army protected by heroes led by Arjuna, men whose prowess was like that of the guardian deities of the world. The verse underscores that even in a time of withdrawal and renunciation, royal duty is carried out with disciplined order and responsible protection of those under one’s care.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Dharma in governance includes orderly action and protection: even when moving toward a life of withdrawal, a king must act responsibly, ensuring the safety and discipline of those who accompany him.
After the preceding events, Yudhiṣṭhira commands the army to march. The force is guarded by Arjuna and other foremost warriors, described as being like the Lokapālas in strength and vigilance.
