Puṣkara-Śapatha Itihāsa (Agastya–Indra Dispute at the Tīrthas) |
Jamadagnir uvāca: na etat iha yathā asmākam bhaktam indhanam eva ca | sañcintyam vārṣikam citte tena pīvā ucchunā saha ||
Jamadagni said: “It is not the case here as it is with us—that one must keep in mind, for the whole year, anxious calculations about food and even firewood. Since he has no such year-long worry in his heart, he has grown plump, along with the dog.”
Freedom from constant anxiety over provisions (food and fuel) is presented as a mark of ease and contentment; the verse contrasts the burden of continual planning with a life that is untroubled by such worries.
Jamadagni comments that, unlike their own situation where they must think year-round about securing food and firewood, the person being referred to has no such concern; as a result, he has become well-fed—‘plump’—even in the company of a dog.
