नक्षत्रेषु श्राद्धफलविधानम् (Śrāddha Outcomes According to Nakṣatras)
क्रीडत: क्रीडनीयानि ददुः पक्षिगणाश्र ह । सुपर्णो3स्य ददौ पुत्र मयूरं चित्रबर्हिणम्,पक्षियोंने खेल-कूदमें लगे हुए कुमारको खिलौने दिये, गरुडने विचित्र पंखोंसे सुशोभित अपना पुत्र मयूर भेंट किया
krīḍataḥ krīḍanīyāni daduḥ pakṣigaṇāś ca ha | suparṇo 'sya dadau putraṃ mayūraṃ citrabarhiṇam ||
Bhishma said: As the boy was playing, the flocks of birds gave him playthings. Suparṇa (Garuḍa) presented to him his own son—a peacock adorned with variegated plumage.
भीष्म उवाच
The verse highlights the dharmic value of dāna (giving): goodwill is expressed through suitable gifts offered with affection, reinforcing harmony and relationship rather than asserting power.
A boy is engaged in play; various birds bring him toys, and Garuḍa (Suparṇa) gives him a remarkable gift—his own son, a beautifully plumed peacock.
