Yudhiṣṭhira said: “Grandfather, you have here explained, in accordance with proper procedure, the giving of gold. Please set forth in detail the merits of such gifts as characterized in the Vedas (śruti), so that the full ethical and scriptural value of this act of charity may be understood.”

That charity (dāna), especially valuable gifts like gold, is not merely material generosity but a dharmic act whose merit depends on being performed according to proper rule (vidhi) and in alignment with Vedic testimony (śruti).
Yudhiṣṭhira addresses Bhīṣma as ‘Grandfather’ and requests a fuller, detailed account of the Veda-attested merits and qualities of giving gold, continuing the instructional dialogue on dharma in the Anuśāsana Parva.
