Śrāddha-Kalpa: Pitṛ-Pūjā and Tithi-Phala (श्राद्धकल्पः पितृपूजा च तिथिफलम्)
एवमेव गवामुक्तं प्रदानं ते नृगेण ह । ऋषिणा नाचिकेतेन पूर्वमेव निदर्शितम्,इसी तरह राजा नृगने जो गोदान किया था तथा नाचिकेत ऋषिने जो गौओंका दान और पूजन किया था, वह सब आपने पहले ही कहा और निर्देश किया है
evam eva gavām uktaṃ pradānaṃ te nṛgeṇa ha | ṛṣiṇā nāciketena pūrvam eva nidarśitam ||
Yudhiṣṭhira said: “Just so, the account you have given of the gifting of cows—how King Nṛga once made such a donation—and the precedent shown earlier by the sage Nāciketa, has already been explained and illustrated by you.”
युधिछिर उवाच
That charitable giving—especially go-dāna—must be understood through established precedents and careful ethical framing; exemplary stories (like those of Nṛga and Nāciketa) are cited to clarify right conduct in donation and its moral consequences.
Yudhiṣṭhira acknowledges that the interlocutor has already explained, with earlier examples, the tradition and implications of cow-gifting—specifically referencing King Nṛga’s donation and the sage Nāciketa’s precedent.
