Shloka 433

Suvarṇa-dāna: Kārttikeya’s Origin and the Defeat of Tāraka

Bhīṣma uvāca: śakyaḥ samāsādayituṃ golokaḥ puṣkarekṣaṇa. kamalanayana indra! brahmacarya-tapas-yatna-indriya-saṃyama-nānāprakāra-dāna-puṇya-tīrthasevana-mahātapaḥ anyāny-śubhakarmānuṣṭhānaiḥ eva golokaprāptiḥ bhavati.

Bhishma said: “O lotus-eyed one, O Indra-like lord! Goloka can indeed be attained—but only through disciplined spiritual practice: celibate restraint, austerity, sustained effort, control of the senses, many forms of charitable giving, the accumulation of merit, pilgrimage and service at sacred places, great penance, and the faithful performance of other auspicious duties. By such conduct alone does one reach Goloka.”
