Merits of Cow-Gift and the Origin-Account of Kapilā Cows

यश्चात्मविक्रयं कृत्वा गा: क्रीत्वा सम्प्रयच्छति । यावत् संदर्शयेद् गां वै स तावत् फलमश्लुते,जो अपने आपको बेचकर भी गायको खरीदकर उसका दान करता है, वह ब्रह्माण्डमें जबतक गोजातिकी सत्ता देखता है, तबतक उस दानका अक्षय फल भोगता रहता है
Transliteration
yaścātmavikrayaṁ kṛtvā gāḥ krītvā samprayacchati | yāvat saṁdarśayed gāṁ vai sa tāvat phalam aśnute ||
Translation
Bhishma said: “Even a person who has sold himself into servitude, if he purchases cows and gives them away in charity, enjoys the unfailing fruit of that gift for as long as he beholds the very existence of the cow-kind in the universe.”
