यदेकभक्तमश्रीयाद् दद्यादेकं गवां च यत् । दशवर्षाण्यनन्तानि गोव्रती गो&$नुकम्पक:,जो गोसेवाका व्रत लेनेवाला पुरुष गौओंपर दया करता और प्रतिदिन एक समय भोजन करके एक समयका अपना भोजन गौओंको दे देता है, इस प्रकार दस वर्षोतक गोसेवामें तत्पर रहनेवाले पुरुषको अनन्त सुख प्राप्त होते हैं
pitāmaha uvāca | yad ekabhaktam āśrīyād dadyād ekaṃ gavāṃ ca yat | daśavarṣāṇy anantāni govratī go'nukampakaḥ ||
Bhīṣma said: If a man undertakes the discipline of eating only once a day, and from that single meal gives one portion to the cows, then—being a keeper of the cow-vow and compassionate toward cattle—by remaining devoted to such service for ten years, he attains limitless happiness.
पितामह उवाच
A disciplined life (eating once daily) combined with consistent charity and compassion toward cows is presented as a dharmic practice that yields immeasurable spiritual and ethical reward.
Bhīṣma, teaching dharma, describes a specific vow: the practitioner eats once a day and gives a portion of that meal to cows; sustained for ten years, this cow-service is said to lead to limitless happiness.
