Gopradāna-Māhātmya: Inquiry into Goloka

bhīṣma uvāca | madhyadeśe mahān grāmo brāhmaṇānāṃ babhūva ha | gaṅgāyamunayor madhye yāmunasya girer adhaḥ |

Bhishma said: In the Madhyadeśa there once was a large settlement of Brahmins. It lay between the Gaṅgā and the Yamunā, below the slopes of the Yāmuna mountain. The passage introduces a renowned Brahmin village—an idealized setting of learning and disciplined life—preparing the ground for a dharma-teaching narrative rooted in the authority of sacred geography and the conduct of the learned.
