ब्राह्मणेष्वनृणी भूत: पार्थिव: स्यात्‌ पुरंदर | इतरेषां तु वर्णानां तारयेत्‌ कृशदुर्बलान्‌,पुरंदर! राजाको चाहिये कि वह ब्राह्मणोंके प्रति उऋ्रण रहे अर्थात्‌ उनकी सेवा करके उन्हें संतुष्ट रखे तथा अन्य वर्णो्में भी जो लोग दीन-दुर्बल हों; उनका संकटसे उद्धार करे

Bhīṣma said: O Purandara, a king should be free of obligation toward the brāhmaṇas—by serving them and keeping them content—and among the other varṇas he should rescue the poor and the weak from distress.
