On the Fruits of Austerity and Giving

किंचेदं महदाश्चर्य सम्पश्यामीत्यचिन्तयत्‌ । एवं संचिन्तयन्नेव ददर्श मुनिपुंगवम्‌,“यह महान्‌ आश्वर्यकी बात जो मुझे दिखायी दे रही है, क्या है?” इस तरह वे बारंबार विचार करने लगे। राजा इस प्रकार सोच ही रहे थे कि उनकी दृष्टि मुनिप्रवर च्यवनपर पड़ी

kiñcedaṁ mahad āścaryaṁ sampaśyāmīty acintayat | evaṁ sañcintayann eva dadarśa munipuṅgavam ||

Bhishma said: “What is this great wonder that I am seeing?”—so he reflected. As he continued to ponder, the king’s gaze fell upon an eminent sage, foremost among ascetics.
