Cyavana–Kuśika Dialogue on Lineage, Conflict, and Transmission
न च तौ चक्रतुः क्रोधं॑ दम्पती सुमहामती । तयो: सम्प्रेक्षतोरेव पुनरन्तर्हितो5भवत्,परंतु उन परम बुद्धिमान् दम्पतिने उनपर क्रोध नहीं प्रकट किया। उन दोनोंके देखते- ही-देखते वे मुनि फिर अन्तर्धान हो गये
na ca tau cakratuḥ krodhaṁ dampatī sumahāmatī | tayoḥ samprekṣator eva punar antarhito 'bhavat ||
Bhishma said: Yet that supremely wise husband and wife did not give way to anger toward them. Even as the two looked on, the sage once again vanished from sight—showing that self-restraint and forbearance are higher than retaliation, even when one is provoked.
भीष्म उवाच
The verse highlights kṣamā and dama—refusing to manifest anger even when confronted—implying that moral strength lies in restraint rather than reaction.
A sage who had appeared before a highly intelligent husband and wife disappears again (becomes invisible) while they watch, and the couple does not respond with anger.
