Cyavana–Kuśika Dialogue on Hospitality, Service, and Lineage Questions
युधिछिर उवाच षडपध्वंसजा: के स्यु: के वाप्पपसदास्तथा । एतत् सर्व यथातत्त्वं व्याख्यातुं मे त्वमरहसि
yudhiṣṭhira uvāca | ṣaḍ-apadhvaṃsajāḥ ke syuḥ ke vā apapasadās tathā | etat sarvaṃ yathātattvaṃ vyākhyātuṃ me tvam arhasi ||
Yudhiṣṭhira said: “Who are those called the six kinds of apadhvaṃsaja sons, and who, likewise, are termed apapasada? Please explain all of this to me truthfully and in accordance with reality, as you are competent to do.”
युधिछिर उवाच
The verse frames a dharma-oriented inquiry: Yudhiṣṭhira asks for a precise, truthful explanation of technical social-ethical categories (apadhvaṃsaja and apapasada), emphasizing that moral and legal judgments should be grounded in clear definitions rather than assumption.
During the Anuśāsana Parva’s instructional dialogue, Yudhiṣṭhira requests an elder authority to clarify who is classified under certain disputed or technical categories of birth/status, preparing the ground for a detailed exposition on social norms and their ethical implications.
