iyaṃ gaṅgeti niyataṃ pratiṣṭhā guhasya rukmasya ca garbhayoṣā | prātas trivargā ghṛtavahā vipāśmā gaṅgāvatīrṇā viyato viśvatoyā ||

Saying with certainty, ‘This is the Gaṅgā,’ and enabling others to behold her, one gains the assured, unfailing refuge of the blessed Bhāgīrathī. She is the sacred river who bears within her the divine Skanda (Guha) and also gold; she pours forth pure, ghee-like (nourishing) streams and removes sin. Descending from the sky to the earth, her waters are fit for the whole world to drink. Bathing in her at dawn brings success in the three aims of life—dharma, artha, and kāma.

Educational Q&A

Recognizing the Gaṅgā as sacred and guiding others to her darśana is itself meritorious; her dawn-bath is praised as purifying and as supporting the three legitimate aims of worldly life—dharma, artha, and kāma—thus linking devotion and ethical living with ritual purity.

A Siddha extols the greatness of the Gaṅgā (Bhāgīrathī), describing her heavenly descent, her sin-destroying waters, and the spiritual and worldly benefits gained by showing her to others and bathing in her at dawn.
