The Siddha said: By merely beholding her, by touching her, by drinking her waters, and likewise by chanting her name as “Gaṅgā,” she purifies sinful people—by the hundreds and even by the thousands.
सिद्ध उवाच
The verse teaches the purifying power of the Gaṅgā: even simple forms of contact—seeing, touching, drinking her water, or chanting her name—are presented as spiritually efficacious, capable of cleansing heavy wrongdoing and restoring a person toward dharmic life.
A Siddha (a perfected sage) is describing the greatness of the Gaṅgā as a tīrtha. He enumerates four modes of engagement—darśana, sparśa, pāna, and nāma-kīrtana—and declares that through these she purifies vast numbers of sinners.
