Seeing the formidable rākṣasas—such as Maṇibhadra—who were guarding the lotus-filled lake, the sage Aṣṭāvakra was honored by them as they rose to welcome him. He, in turn, respectfully acknowledged those fearsome guardians and said, “Inform the Lord of Wealth, Kubera, at once of my arrival.”
भीष्म उवाच
The passage highlights dhārmic conduct through courtesy and proper procedure: even when one is spiritually eminent, one honors guardians and seeks access by informing the rightful authority (Kubera) rather than acting arrogantly or forcefully.
Aṣṭāvakra arrives at a lotus-filled lake guarded by rākṣasas like Maṇibhadra. The guardians rise to welcome him; he reciprocates their respect and asks them to quickly notify Kubera (Dhanada) of his arrival.
