यथोक्ति: साधुभि: ख्यातैर्मुनिभिस्तत्त्वदर्शिभि: | प्रवरं प्रथम स्वर्ग्य सर्वभूतहितं शुभम्,इन सब नामोंका आविष्कार महापुरुषोंने किया है तथा वेदोंमें दत्तचित्त रहनेवाले महर्षि तण्डिने भक्तिपूर्वक इनका संग्रह किया है। इसलिये ये सभी नाम सत्य, सिद्ध तथा सम्पूर्ण मनोरथोंके साधक हैं। विख्यात श्रेष्ठ पुरुषों तथा तत्त्वदर्शी मुनियोंने इन सभी नामोंका यथावत््रूपसे प्रतिपादन किया है। महर्षि तण्डिने ब्रह्मलोकसे मर्त्यलोकमें इन नामोंको उतारा है; इसलिये ये सत्यनाम सम्पूर्ण जगत्में आदरपूर्वक सुने गये हैं। यदुकुलतिलक श्रीकृष्ण! यह ब्रह्माजीका कहा हुआ सनातन शिव-स्तोत्र अन्य स्तोत्रोंकी अपेक्षा श्रेष्ठ है और उत्तम वेदमय है। सब स्तोत्रोंमें इसका प्रथम स्थान है। यह स्वर्गकी प्राप्ति करानेवाला, सम्पूर्ण भूतोंके लिये हितकर एवं शुभकारक है। इसका मैं आपसे वर्णन करूँगा। आप सावधान होकर मेरे मुखसे इसका श्रवण करें। आप परमेश्वर महादेवजीके भक्त हैं; अतः इस शिवस्वरूप स्तोत्रका वरण करें
yathoktiḥ sādhubhiḥ khyātair munibhis tattvadarśibhiḥ | pravaraṃ prathamaṃ svargyaṃ sarvabhūtahitaṃ śubham ||
Vāyu said: “Just as it has been declared by renowned holy men and by seers who behold the truth, this hymn is excellent and foremost. It leads to heaven, brings welfare to all beings, and is auspicious. Therefore, it should be heard and accepted with attentive devotion as a supremely beneficial praise of Śiva.”
