Vāyu said: “O son of Rukmiṇī, understand from me the proper order and discipline to be observed in honoring Brahmins. For these—Brahmins, the lords of sacred knowledge—are indeed like kings of Soma: they hold power over the arising of happiness and suffering.”
वायुदेव उवाच
The verse teaches that honoring Brahmins must be done with proper discipline and reverence, because those who embody sacred learning and ritual authority can become the occasion for one’s happiness or suffering—through the merit gained by honoring them or the fault incurred by neglecting them.
Vāyu addresses Raukmiṇeya (Kṛṣṇa), instructing him about the correct procedure and attitude in Brahmin-honoring. He underscores their exalted status by comparing them to ‘Soma-kings’ and stating their power with respect to human welfare.
