Bhishma said: By his own spiritual radiance he overcame the hosts of enemies of the gods. Seeing those mighty asuras being scorched by Atri’s power, the gods—now protected through Atri—then displayed their own valor and slew those daityas. Thus Atri made the Sun resplendent, delivered the gods from peril, and brought the asuras to ruin.

The verse highlights the ethical idea that tapas (disciplined spiritual power) safeguards dharma: a sage’s tejas can neutralize destructive forces, enabling rightful powers (the devas) to act effectively and restore cosmic order.
Atri’s radiance burns the mighty asuras; witnessing them scorched and being protected by Atri, the devas regain strength and courage, then strike down the daityas. Atri is praised for empowering the Sun and rescuing the gods.
