अध्याय १६ — शङ्कर-उमा-वरदानम् तथा तण्डि-स्तुतिः (Śaṅkara–Umā Boon-Granting and Taṇḍi’s Hymn)
ऋग्वेदके विद्वान तात्चिक यज्ञकर्ममें ऋग्वेदके मन्त्रोंद्वारा जिनकी महिमाका गान करते हैं, यजुर्वेदके ज्ञाता द्विज यज्ञमें यजुर्मन्त्रोंद्वारा दक्षिणाग्नि, गार्हपत्य और आहवनीय--इन त्रिविध रूपोंसे जाननेयोग्य जिन महादेवजीके उद्देश्यसे आहुति देते हैं तथा शुद्ध बुद्धिसे युक्त सामवेदके गानेवाले विद्वान् साममन्त्रोंद्वारा जिनकी स्तुति गाते हैं, अथर्ववेदी ब्राह्मण ऋत, सत्य एवं परब्रह्मगामसे जिनकी स्तुति करते हैं, जो यज्ञके परम कारण हैं, वे ही ये परमेश्वर समस्त यज्ञोंके परमपति माने गये हैं
ṛgvedake vidvān tāttvika-yajña-karmaṇi ṛgvedaka-mantrair yān mahimnaḥ gāyanti | yajurveda-jñā dvijā yajñe yajuḥ-mantraiḥ dakṣiṇāgniṃ gārhapatyaṃ cāhavanīyaṃ ca—etais trividha-rūpair jñeyaṃ mahādevaṃ uddiśya āhutīḥ juhvati | sāma-veda-gāyakāḥ śuddha-buddhi-yuktā vidvāṃsaḥ sāma-mantraiḥ yasya stutiṃ gāyanti | atharvavedino brāhmaṇā ṛta-satya-parabrahma-gāmanena yasya stutiṃ kurvanti | sa eva yajñasya parama-kāraṇaḥ, sa eva parameśvaraḥ sarva-yajñānāṃ parama-patiḥ iti manyate ||
Vāyu said: The learned who are grounded in the Ṛgveda sing the greatness of that Lord through Ṛgvedic hymns in the true performance of sacrifice. The twice-born experts in the Yajurveda, using Yajurvedic formulas, pour oblations for the sake of Mahādeva as the One to be known in the threefold form of the sacred fires—Dakṣiṇāgni, Gārhapatya, and Āhavanīya. The pure-minded singers of the Sāmaveda chant His praise through Sāman verses. The Atharvavedic Brahmins extol Him by the path of Ṛta and Satya, leading to the Supreme Brahman. He is the highest cause of sacrifice; He alone is acknowledged as the Supreme Lord, the ultimate master of all sacrifices.
