dyauḥ sacandrārkanakṣatrā khaṁ diśo bhūr mahodadhiḥ | vāsudevasya vīryeṇa vidhṛtāni mahātmanaḥ ||
Bhīṣma said: The heavens—together with the moon, the sun, and the stars—along with the sky, the ten directions, the earth, and the great ocean are all upheld by the might of the great-souled Vāsudeva.
भीष्म उवाच
That the universe—heavenly bodies, space, directions, earth, and ocean—depends on the sustaining power of Vāsudeva; recognizing this fosters devotion, humility, and alignment with dharma rather than ego-driven action.
Bhīṣma, instructing on dharma and higher truths in the Anuśāsana Parva, praises Vāsudeva’s supreme potency by describing him as the support of the entire cosmos.
