न क्रोधो न च मात्सर्य न लोभो नाशुभा मति: । भवन्ति कृतपुण्यानां भक्तानां पुरुषोत्तमे
na krodho na ca mātsaryaṁ na lobho nāśubhā matiḥ | bhavanti kṛta-puṇyānāṁ bhaktānāṁ puruṣottame ||
Bhīṣma said: In those devotees who have accumulated merit, when their devotion is fixed upon the Supreme Person, anger does not arise, nor envy, nor greed; and their understanding never turns toward what is impure or harmful.
भीष्म उवाच
True devotion to Puruṣottama, supported by accumulated merit and right conduct, naturally weakens and removes inner vices—anger, envy, and greed—and keeps the intellect from turning toward impure or harmful aims.
