Bhishma said: He attains abundant fame, and pre-eminence among his kinsmen as well. He gains unshakable prosperity and the highest good. The devoted man who, rising at dawn, bathes and becomes pure, then meditates on Vishnu and properly recites this thousand-named hymn of Vasudeva—he wins great renown, standing and honor in his lineage, stable wealth, and the most excellent welfare; fear does not arise for him anywhere. He obtains vigor and inner splendor, and becomes healthy, radiant, strong, handsome, and endowed with every virtue.

Educational Q&A

Steady devotion expressed through disciplined daily practice—purifying oneself at dawn, meditating on Vishnu, and reciting the Vishnu Sahasranama—cultivates both inner excellence (fearlessness, vigor, radiance, virtues) and outer well-being (repute, social standing, stable prosperity).

In Anushasana Parva, Bhishma instructs Yudhishthira on dharma and religious observances. Here he describes the fruits (phalaśruti) of reciting the Thousand Names of Vasudeva, presenting it as a powerful devotional discipline that yields comprehensive welfare.
