bhaktimān yaḥ sadotthāya śucis tadgatamānasaḥ | sahasraṁ vāsudevasya nāmnām etat prakīrtayet ||
Bhīṣma said: Whoever is devoted—rising regularly at dawn, purified, and with the mind absorbed in Him—recites properly this thousandfold litany of the names of Vāsudeva, gains great renown and standing among people, attains stable prosperity, and reaches the highest welfare. Fear does not arise for him anywhere; he obtains vigor and inner radiance, and becomes healthy, radiant, strong, handsome, and endowed with all virtues.
भीष्म उवाच
Steady devotion expressed through disciplined morning purity and focused remembrance, culminating in the recitation of Vāsudeva’s thousand names, is presented as a powerful dhārmic practice that yields inner fearlessness and comprehensive well-being—ethical excellence, vitality, and stable prosperity.
In the Anuśāsana Parva’s instruction section, Bhīṣma continues advising Yudhiṣṭhira by praising the practice of chanting the Vāsudeva-sahasranāma, describing the qualities of the practitioner and the fruits that follow from such devoted recitation.
