Adhyāya 152 — Bhīṣma’s Authorization for Yudhiṣṭhira’s Return to the Capital (नगरप्रवेशानुज्ञा)
ब्राह्मणान् दुर्बलानाथान् दीनान्धकृपणांस्तथा । बिभर्त्यन्नेन या नारी सा पतिव्रतभागिनी,जो उत्तम गुणोंसे युक्त होकर सदा सास-ससुरके चरणोंकी सेवामें संलग्न रहती है तथा माता-पिताके प्रति भी सदा उत्तम भक्तिभाव रखती है, वह स्त्री तपस्यारूपी धनसे सम्पन्न मानी गयी है। जो नारी ब्राह्मणों, दुर्बलों, अनाथों, दीनों, अन्धों और कृपणों (कंगालों) का अन्नके द्वारा भरण-पोषण करती है, वह पातिव्रतधर्मके पालनका फल पाती है
brāhmaṇān durbalānāthān dīnāndhakṛpaṇāṁs tathā | bibharty annena yā nārī sā pativratabhāginī ||
Maheshvara said: The woman who sustains with food the Brahmanas, the weak, the helpless, the poor, the blind, and the destitute—she is a true sharer in the merit of pativratā-dharma. Her fidelity is shown not merely in private conduct but in compassionate household duty, where nourishment given to the vulnerable becomes an ethical act that yields the fruit of wifely virtue.
